In this video, The Watson Institute provides a strategy for children who chew their pencils. The weighted pencil holder is made of a hard ceramic or granite type material. This pencil holder is often marketed for a child with poor muscle control, however, it may be effective in deterring a persistent pencil-chewer. The Watson Institute is a special education school in Western Pennsylvania that educates children with special needs including autism spectrum disorders, neurological impairments, or serious emotional challenges. Watson also provides resources and services to professionals, educators, and families of children and youth with special needs. Learn more at www.thewatsoninstitute.org.
